Services with the Animal Shelter Division of <br />the Animal Services Department <br />DEPARTMENT: Animal Services Department PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT: <br />Renewal Contract <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Bob Marotto, Animal Services Director, <br />968-2287 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract renewal with Dr. James Miller, DVM, to provide spay/neuter <br />surgery services for Orange County's Animal Shelter at the unit price of $63 per animal during <br />FY 2007-2008. <br />BACKGROUND: Orange County. has contracted with Dr. James Miller since July 1, 2006 to <br />provide spay/neuter surgery services for cats and dogs adopted from the Animal Shelter. Prior <br />to this contract, Dr. James Miller submitted the only proposal that met the County's service <br />needs in response to a request for proposals for such sterilization services to replace the <br />capacity that was lost as a result of the departure of other veterinarians who had in the past <br />provided such service to the County and its Animal Shelter. Dr. James Miller has a successful <br />record of adult and pediatric sterilization and Animal Services' management recommends a <br />continuation of his services. <br />Contract format and requirements are the same as for the preceding fiscal year, and July 1St <br />2007 to June 30th, 2008 is the term of the contract. The contract fee for sterilization will increase <br />from the current flat rate of $60 per animal to a flat rate of $63 per animal; and for each <br />sterilized animal, a physical examination shall be conducted and records prepared for the <br />Orange County Animal Shelter. Also, there are select additional predefined charges for certain <br />services that can be performed on sterilized animals but only as authorized by management of <br />the County's Animal Shelter. (These are enumerated in Appendix A of the attached renewal <br />contract. ) <br />A fee increase of $3 (5%) per animal results from an increase in the actual costs realized by Dr. <br />Jim Miller in obtaining necessary equipment and supplies associated with performing <br />
