4 <br /> will be selected in consultation with the Project Specialist after <br /> preliminary background research . Emphasis shall be placed on those <br /> areas under pressure from development, areas likely to contain Middle <br /> Woodland occupations and areas likely to contain 18th and 19th century <br /> homesteads . The project is a part of a long-range research program in <br /> Orange County designed to enhance current knowledge concerning the <br /> nature and distributions of archaeological sites associated with both <br /> prehistoric and early historic occupation in the eastern Piedmont. <br /> Archaeological sites identified during the survey shall be evaluated <br /> with respect to the National Register of Historic Places criteria and <br /> recommendations will be made for subsequent research and preservation <br /> planning . A formal report shall present the project results . <br /> SECTION 6. PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> The project will be conducted in accordance with the proposal abstract <br /> presented in Attachment C (as it pertains to the archaeological <br /> survey) . In addition , the project shall adhere to the following <br /> conditions: <br /> ( 1 ) The survey methods employed during the project may consist of <br /> subsurface testing , but such testing shall not expand to the level of <br /> archaeological excavation under this grant. Where testing is <br /> conducted , all fill dirt shall be screened through 1/4" mesh hardware <br /> cloth to recover archaeological artifacts. <br /> ( 2 ) No archaeological feature or human burial shall be excavated <br /> under this grant without specific consultation with the Project <br /> Specialist. <br /> ( 3 ) All archaeological sites identified during the project will be <br /> recorded on North Carolina Archaeological Site Forms (to be furnished <br /> by the Division ) . <br /> (4 ) All areas surveyed will be clearly marked on U .S.G. S. 7 . 5 ' <br /> topographic maps. <br /> ( 5 ) All work conducted under this grant shall be consistent with <br /> the Secretary of the Interior 's Standards and Guidelines for <br /> Archeological Documentation ( Federal Register 48( 190 ) ) . <br /> Following completion of the field survey, the P. I . will complete all <br /> artifact and data analysis and shall prepare a complete report on the <br /> project activities for submission to the Division (see Section 7 ) . <br /> SECTION 7 . PROJECT REPORTING <br /> ( 1 ) Interim Reports. On or before September 1 , 1993 , the P. I . shall <br /> prepare and submit to the Division a brief - Interim - report on the <br /> grant activities to date. <br /> Subsequent interim reports shall be submitted on or before the <br /> following dates : <br /> November 1 , 1993 <br /> January 1 , 1994 <br /> March 1 , 1994 <br /> May 1 , 1994 <br />
