ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 1993 <br /> SURVEY AND PLANNING GRANT <br /> PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> SECTION 1 . INTRODUCTION <br /> This project description is for an archaeological survey of portions <br /> of Orange County , North Carolina, to be conducted using a Survey and <br /> Planning Grant from the National Park Service of the U. S. Department <br /> of the Interior, as administered by the North Carolina Division of <br /> Archives and History (hereinafter the Division) . The survey will be <br /> carried out by the Research Laboratories of Anthropology at the <br /> University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for Orange County. <br /> This description identifies the overall objectives, general <br /> approaches, reporting format, significant personnel , and schedule for <br /> the project. <br /> SECTION 2. PERSONNEL <br /> Mr. Marvin Collins shall serve as Project Coordinator and Dr. Vincas <br /> Steponaitis shall serve as Principal Investigator (hereinafter the <br /> , .P. I . ) for the project. Ms. Dolores A. Hall , Office of State Ar- <br /> chaeology , shall serve as Project Specialist and contact for the <br /> Division. Additional project personnel , including the Principal <br /> Consultant, shall be identified by the P. I . in consultation with the <br /> Project Specialist as necessary and desired in accordance with the <br /> budget schedule below. Personnel employed for field or laboratory <br /> supervisors must, however, meet the professional qualifications <br /> criteria set forth by the National Park Service, Department of the <br /> Interior, in 36 CFR Part 66 ( Federal Register 42 ( 19 ) , 1977 ) . <br /> SECTION 3. BUDGET <br /> The project shall adhere to the budget schedule (Attachment A) and the <br /> accounting procedures defined in the Project Memorandum of Agreement <br /> (Attachment B) . The Project Coordinator and the P. I . , in coordination <br /> with the Principal Consultant, shall be responsible for maintaining <br /> all accounting documentation for the project. Additional stipulations <br /> pertaining to the budget are identified in the Appendix of this <br /> Description. <br /> SECTION 4. PROJECT SCHEDULE <br /> The project shall begin on or after July 1 , 1993 , and shall end on or <br /> before September 30 , 1994. <br /> SECTION 5 . PROJECT OBJECTIVES <br /> The primary objective of the project is to conduct a survey of the <br /> archaeological resources contained within certain portions of Orange <br /> County . The survey will be accomplished by background research and a <br /> reconnaissance level survey to identify areas with a high probability <br /> of containing prehistoric and historic sites.
