VI. Orange Regional Landfill and Recycling Services <br /> The Landfill Owners' Group recommends a landfill and recycling budget of$3,534,427 for <br /> 1993-94, including the following changes in ti <br /> g car es g tipping fees: <br /> 1992-93 1993-94 <br />"!7 Mixed Waste $21.50 ton $25.00 ton <br /> Ash $13.00 ton $15.00 ton <br /> "Clean" Wood/Yard Waste -- $ 3.00 ton <br /> Tires $ 50.00 ton $50.00 ton <br /> The fee of $3.00 per ton for clean wood and yard waste is intended to encourage <br /> 7 separation of these materials from mixed solid w aste. Clean wood (not mixed with refuse) and yard waste will be diverted from the landfill and ground into mulch for re-user <br /> The recommended fees for mixed waste and ash are raised to pay for additional service and <br /> capital costs of the landfill and recycling programs. <br /> A change in landfill fees can occur only ith <br /> y approval of the Orange County, Carrboro, and <br /> Chapel Hill governing board. <br /> U <br /> Services <br /> We estimate that 91,500 tons of mixed solid waste, 6,500 tons of clean wood/yard waste, <br /> and 26,000 tons of ash will be delivered to the landfill for disposal in 1993-94, about the <br /> same as in the current year. <br /> The proposed budget includes the following new and expanded services. <br /> • Additional commercial cardboard recycling routes <br /> • Recycling of plastics and tin cans from multi-family developments <br /> • Collection of food wastes from some schools and restaurants for use as hog feed <br /> • Addition of small (fewer than 25 dwellings) multi-family developments to the curbside <br /> recycling program <br /> • Operation of a salvage program for furniture and appliances <br /> • Provision of curbside recycling services to relatively densely developed subdivisions in <br /> rural areas <br /> • Increased waste reduction efforts; and, recycling education programs for multi-family <br /> developments <br /> I • Grinding clean wood and yard waste for mulch <br /> 24 <br /> I <br />
