3
*I* FIRE
TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL DEPARTMENT
302 N. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, N.C. 27516 (919) 968-2781
f
DfPRI 0 1
June 9 , 1993
Ms. Pam Jones, Director of Purchasing and
Central Services, Orange County
Post Office Box 8181
Hillsborough, N.C. 27278
Dear Ms. Jones:
I 'm writing you to request approval of plans for a
community fireworks display to be held at Kenan Stadium on
July 4, 1993 with a rain date of July 5 . Enclosed are copies
of the permit application, fire protection and safety plan,
site plan for the display, liability insurance certificate,
shooter's information, ATF license, display contract and the
permit issued by our department.
The fireworks will begin at 9: 30 pm. The display will be
almost identical to last year's except that additional
fireworks will be used during the main and grand finale parts
of the program. The primary viewing area will be on the
north side of the stadium with additional seating available
in the west end zone area.
The fire protection and safety plan for this year is
very similar to last year's. The launching area will again
be in the Ramshead parking lot with the Ehringhaus practice
field as the fallout area (please see the attached site
plan) . The only major operational chance is that access to
the Ramshead parking lot at the conclusion of the show will
be restricted until the Chapel Hill Fire Marshal has declared
the area safe.
The Fire Department will have personnel in the stadium
watching for any problems, and fire extinguishers will be on
hand. Once again we will stress that sparklers or other
fireworks are not to be brought to the event.
We appreciate your assistance and look forward to another
safe and successful July 4th celebration. If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact either Chief Jones or
me at 968-2781 or Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Event
Coordinator Bill Webster at 968-2784 .
Sincerely,
.H. Robertson, Jr.
Deputy Chief/Fire
Marshal
CC: Mike Tapp, Orange County Fire Marshal
Public Education • Incident Prevention • Emergency Response Services
