23 <br /> 1 Since MOY's inception, 99% of participants have been students of color with the <br /> 2 following outcomes: <br /> 3 100% of students complete at least eight (8) hours of community service per school year <br /> 4 (MOY mentors and mentees have completed 10,000+ volunteer hours since 2006) <br /> 5 100% of high school students enroll in at least one (1) Honors or Advanced Placement <br /> 6 Course <br /> 7 100% of students graduate from high school <br /> 8 99% of students enroll in college <br /> 9 <br /> 10 What We Do —Team Mentoring <br /> 11 College students may apply annually to become mentors and friends for students <br /> 12 Year-long relationships provide participants with access to a student scholar <br /> 13 <br /> 14 What We Do — Leadership Academy <br /> 15 Leadership Academy is held twice a month on Saturdays and features a variety of sessions <br /> 16 built to challenge participants in different ways intellectually, physically, and socially. <br /> 17 Sessions are tailored to address the complex and unique issues that diverse youth face daily, <br /> 18 while also providing opportunities for individual growth and professional development. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 What We Do —Summer Enrichment Academy <br /> 21 Summer Enrichment Academy includes recreational activities, STEAM (science, technology, <br /> 22 engineering, art, and mathematics)workshops, career training, field trips, and guest speakers <br /> 23 among other things. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 What We Do —J.U.S.T. Hemphill Memorial Scholarship <br /> 32 <br /> 33 What We Do <br /> 34 College Tours <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Why is My Brother's Keeper Orange County Important? <br /> 37 <br /> 38 MBK Orange County Priority Areas <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Commissioner Price said MBK was started as a way to pool resources to help the <br /> 41 County's young men of color. She said she can no longer do all the work, and MOY is needed <br /> 42 to carry forward MBK. She said this would provide a way for MBK's to continue to raise funds. <br /> 43 Commissioner McKee commended Commissioner Price for the leadership she has <br /> 44 given up to this point. He asked if staff has been involved in discussions regarding MBK, and if <br /> 45 there is an update. <br /> 46 Atrayus Goode said he has met with several community members, and there is <br /> 47 consensus that MOY would be the best agency to lead this work forward. <br /> 48 Commissioner Price said the Manager and Deputy Manager have been involved in <br /> 49 discussions. She said the Sheriff's department is also very important in this work. <br /> 50 Chair Dorosin clarified that MOY is a 501-c3, and that MBK is an Orange County <br /> 51 initiative, and not a formal entity. He asked if these two groups will be merged. <br /> 52 Atrayus Goode said MOY will coordinate the work and activities of the various agencies, <br /> 53 making MBK more attractive for funding.
