Consent Agenda <br /> 8 <br /> 9 • Removal of Any Items from Consent Agenda <br /> 10 6-b, 6-d, by Commissioner Price and 6-e by Commissioner Jacobs <br /> 11 <br /> 12 • Approval of Remaining Consent Agenda <br /> 13 <br /> 14 A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Dorosin to <br /> 15 approve the remaining items on the consent agenda. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 18 <br /> 19 • Discussion and Approval of the Items Removed from the Consent Agenda <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Commissioner Price asked if item 6-d could be addressed first as there was one person <br /> 22 in the audience to speak on this item. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 6d: Adoption of the Accessible Icon Project in Orange County <br /> 25 The Board considered approving the implementation of the new wheelchair Accessible Icon <br /> 26 Project for Orange County. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 PUBLIC COMMENT: <br /> 29 Rollin Russell is here representing the Human Relations Commission (HRC), and he <br /> 30 thanked the Board for doing an assessment of the accessibility of all County properties. He <br /> 31 said the HRC is asking the Board to adopt the new icon for handicapped spaces and disability <br /> 32 services. He said where it is possible for the County to use the new icon, he hoped that the <br /> 33 County would. He said the cities of New Bern and Durham have already adopted this icon, and <br /> 34 the Board has a brochure at its places. He invited the Board to attend the Human Relations <br /> 35 Forum on Sunday, January 29tH <br /> 36 Commissioner Rich asked him if he could provide this information to the new <br /> 37 Community Relations Director to advertise this forum. <br /> 38 Commissioner Price asked Bonnie Hammersley if the County will be re-painting parking <br /> 39 spaces. <br /> 40 Bonnie Hammersley said the new icon will be displayed wherever it can be or is allowed <br /> 41 to be. She said staff is assessing how quickly this can be done and will follow up with a memo. <br /> 42 Commissioner Jacobs said at the work session last week, the Board discussed advisory <br /> 43 boards, and the size of the HRC board came up. He said he wanted to give Rollin Russell a <br /> 44 heads-up. <br /> 45 Rollin Russell said they are aware of the issue and look forward to the Board's <br /> 46 recommendations. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 A motion was made by Commissioner Dorosin, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br /> 49 approve the implementation of the new wheelchair Accessible Icon Project for Orange County. <br /> 50 <br />
