How do we make <br /> 6 sure we're not duplicating efforts? How do we work in collaboration to <br /> 7 accomplish more? <br /> 8 • Getting the Arts in the Conversation <br /> 9 o Almost every municipal project, tourism campaign, or economic development <br /> 10 initiative is an opportunity to incorporate the arts and promote Orange County as <br /> 11 and arts destination! <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Mayor Lavelle welcomed Katie Murray, and said the Town of Carrboro looks forward to <br /> 14 her work in Orange County. <br /> 15 Mayor Hemminger said greetings to her, and encouraged the importance of marketing <br /> 16 the County's entire arts programming to all segments of the population. <br /> 17 Alderman Slade arrived at 7:29 p.m. <br /> 18 Alderman Chaney said it is important for the elected bodies to understand the kinds of <br /> 19 calculators that should be used when thinking about the arts and their contribution to the <br /> 20 economy. She said it is important to highlight and support the residents of color in our <br /> 21 community. <br /> 22 Katie Murray said the Arts and Economic Prosperity Study is currently being completed, <br /> 23 the results of which will come in March 2017. She said these results will help measure the <br /> 24 impact of arts in our communities. She echoed the comments about giving light to artists of <br /> 25 color. <br /> 26 Commissioner Price encouraged Katie Murray to look at Winston Salem and Forsyth <br /> 27 County as well. <br /> 28 Mayor Stevens commended Orange County for the use of the Whitted facility to <br /> 29 highlight the arts, such as exhibiting the paper hand puppets recently. <br /> 30 Commissioner Pelissier asked if the University of North Carolina (UNC) is included in <br /> 31 arts discussions. <br /> 32 Katie Murray said yes. <br /> 33 Mayor Hemminger asked if the Arts Commission is cross-promoting. <br /> 34 Katie Murray said yes. <br /> 35 Mayor Hemminger said the Town of Chapel Hill is having a lantern festival for the <br /> 36 Chinese population in January 2017, and encouraged all residents to participate. <br /> 37 Commissioner Rich said Katie Murray was part of the hand puppet parade. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 2.
