Fikes <br /> Project Description <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER- <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve an amendment to the Orange County HOME <br /> Consortium Program to reprogram $300,000 set-aside for the Orange <br /> Community Housing Corporation and authorize the Chair to sign the <br /> necessary documents on behalf of the Board. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County HOME Consortium received an award of <br /> $803,600 in HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds to be used for <br /> acquisition, housing rehabilitation and new construction activities in <br /> Orange County. Of this amount, $300,000 had been targeted for new <br /> construction activities to be carried out by the Orange Community Housing <br /> Corporation (OCHC) . Specifically, funds had been committed to the Erwin <br /> Village project which has now been abandoned. Therefore, OCHC has <br /> proposed the following projects to utilize the $300,000 allocation. <br /> 1. Land Acquisition/Second Mortgage $ 32,000 <br /> 2 . Countywide Existing Townhome Second <br /> Mortgage Program 68,000 <br /> 3. Single Family New Construction <br /> for First-Time Homebuyers 200,000 <br /> TOTAL $300,000 <br /> (See Attached Project Description for details. ) <br /> In order to amend our HOME Program to accommodate these new projects, the <br /> County, as lead entity, must approve this amendment and then transmit <br /> amended application forms along with a cover letter signed by the Chair of <br /> the Board of Commissioners to the N.C. Department of Commerce-Division of <br /> Community Assistance. <br /> Additionally, the elected boards of the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill and <br /> Hillsborough must also approve this amendment. Carrboro officials will <br /> consider this amendment on June 8th and Chapel Hill and Hillsborough on <br /> June 14th. After approval by all boards, the formal written request will <br /> be sent to the State. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> The Manager recommends approving an amendment to the Orange County HOME <br /> Consortium Program to reprogram $300, 000 set-aside for the Orange <br /> Community Housing Corporation as proposed and authorize the Chair to sign <br /> the necessary documents on behalf of the Board. <br />
