Passmore, Director <br /> Nominee Summaries TELEPHONE NUMBER <br /> Fact Sheet Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Extension 2000 <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging, at its May 20 <br /> meeting, voted to recommend the individuals listed on the <br /> attached as delegate and alternates to the North Carolina <br /> Senior Tar Heel Legislature. The legislation which would <br /> establish the Senior Tar Heel Legislature is expected to <br /> be adopted soon and the Legislature would be convened in <br /> the Fall. As outlined in the attached Fact Sheet, the <br /> purpose of the Senior Tar Heel Legislature is to provide <br /> the opportunity for older adults in this state to have a <br /> strong, unified voice for addressing legislative priorities. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Senate Bill 479 introduced in the North Carolina General <br /> Assemblly on March 10, 1993, by Senator Beverly Perdue of <br /> New Bern calls for the establishment of a Senior Tar Heel <br /> Legislature. One delegate from each county will be <br /> elected for a two year term. Delegates must be 60 years <br /> or over. Each county must also elect an alternate. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Manager recommends appointment of slate as presented. <br />
