Box 29535
Raleigh, NC 27626-0535
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Mr. Louis Berini, who is part owner of Caroline Mobile Home
Park here in Orange County, has asked me to write you
concerning the status of the on-site sewage disposal systems
serving the park currently. Most of the homes in the park are
served by individual ground absorption systems which were
installed in the late 60 ' s and early 70 ' s. The systems
generally consist of a 1, 000 gallon septic tank with 120-240
linear feet of 3 foot wide nitrification trench.
As the systems are aging, we have seen increasing problems with
their functionality, especially in the wetter periods of the
year. Compounding these problems are the . facts that the park
was developed with a high density for on-site sewage disposal
and there is little area left with adequate soils that allows
for reasonable repairs of failing systems.
It is my opinion that if public sewer is available to the park,
it should be connected to that sewer. Failure to pursue this
option could result in irreparable failing septic systems and
potential loss of spaces for the park in the future.
Please call if you have any questions concerning this matter.
S . cerely,
Ron Holdway, .h
Environmental Health Supervisor
cc: Louis Berini
SOUTHERN ORANGE OFFICE:Carr Mill Mall,Suite 225, 100 N.Greensboro SL,Carrboro,N.C. 27510,(919)968.2022
