0 <br />GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />SESSION 2007 <br />g 1 <br />HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1876 <br />Sponsors: Representatives Faison and Inslco (Primary Sponsors). <br />Referred to: Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House. <br />April 26, 2007 <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />29 <br />30 <br />A JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING HILLSBOROUGH HOG DAY ON ITS <br />TWENTY-FIFTH AS1I~]IVERSARY. <br />Whereas, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce has <br />conducted Hillsborough Hog Day, in Downtown Hillsborough, North Carolina, for 25 <br />years; and <br />Whereas, Hillsborough was mapped out in 1754 on land where the Great <br />Indian Trading Path crossed the Eno River; and <br />Whereas, Hillsborough has been the home of individuals who have made a <br />difference in and for our State, including William Churton, who laid out the town; <br />Thomas Day, anAfrican-American furniture maker; William Hooper, a North Carolina <br />signer of the Declaration of Independence; Elizabeth Keckley, a former slave who went <br />on to become Mary Todd Lincoln's White House seamstress; and William Graham, <br />Governor of North Carolina, United States Senator, a Secretary of the Navy; and <br />Whereas, based on the strong foundation of these individuals and many <br />others, Hillsborough is a culturally diverse village and the county seat for Orange <br />County; and <br />Whereas, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Town of <br />Hillsborough, and Orange County government invite thousands of visitors to join the <br />festivities on the third weekend in June for Hillsborough Hog Day; and <br />Whereas, Hillsborough Hog Day has grown from a small bake sale into an <br />established, important community event attracting up to 35,000 residents and visitors <br />who come to celebrate the Town of Hillsborough; and <br />Whereas, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce continues <br />to present family-friendly, safe, fun entertainment to the community and to its visitors <br />on the third Friday and Saturday of each June; and <br />Whereas, Hillsborough Hog Day presents a wide array of musical <br />entertainment over a day and a half, all with North Carolina roots; and <br />Whereas, Hillsborough Hog Day celebrates one of North Carolina's most <br />important agricultural products, pork, by hosting 30 teams of cookers to prepare three <br />tons of slow-cooked barbecue for sale to and consumption by Hog Day attendees; and <br />
