Position Classification and Pay Plan Maintenance <br /> Operating departments are responsible for the <br /> assignment of duties and responsibilities to positions <br /> at the outset and for changing these as operating <br /> needy require. <br /> The Personnel Department conducts position <br /> classification reviews on a scheduled basis, upon the <br /> request of the employee or employee' s supervisor as <br /> necessary to recognize changes in duties and prior to <br /> establishing every new position. <br /> For a classification review, an official position <br /> description is completed and submitted to the <br /> Personnel Department. The Personnel Department <br /> studies the position' s duties and relates these to <br /> other County positions. As required, Personnel <br /> conducts a job audit, job factor analysis and a labor <br /> market salary survey, prior to making a classification <br /> and/or pay determination. <br /> The Personnel Department maintains the official County <br /> Classification and Pay Plan which includes a salary <br /> schedule, list of classes and assigned salary grades, <br /> and a class specification for every class in the plan. <br /> Personnel recommends any proposed amendment to the <br /> Classification and Pay Plan to the County Manager who <br /> presents this to the Board of County Commissioners for <br /> action as appropriate. The Classification and Pay <br /> Plan is updated annually or as necessary. <br /> The Personnel Department assures that minimum <br /> requirements (including physical requirements) stated <br /> in class specifications are job-related and accurately <br /> reflect the requirements to perform the essential <br /> functions of positions in the class. <br /> -13- <br />
