Georgann Eubanks: Hogan Lake Rezoning Summation 4
further determination of the interests of the public need ever be made
before the maximum 574 housing units are built.
Because our objections to this rezoning have met anger and
aspersion, let me emphasize again that we are not attacking the
motivation or the integrity of the Hogans. Nor are we attacking any
proposed pla. i for Lake Hogan Farms, which must remain outside
discussion in this rezoning. Rather, we are asking that you consider
this rezoning under the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance and
that you reject it because the applicants have failed to show, through
relevant, solid facts in the public record, that it will not impede the
general health, safety and welfare.
We are not opposed to development. In asking you to deny the
applicants' request, we are not asking you to stop development of
these parcels, and we are not asking you to reject the Lake Hogan
Farms plan. We support a full and open discussion of the Hogans'
concept after a resubmission of this proposal under PUP zoning,
instead of the arbitrary R-R R-20 districts. And we truly hope that,
in a full and open discussion of the applicants' real plans, a
neighborly spirit of communication and compromise will replace the
misunderstanding, distrust and ugliness that has hurt all of us this
time around.
