ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 15, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 7- b <br />SUBJECT: SAPFOTAC (Schools Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance Technical Advisory <br />Committee) Class Size Amendment Information <br />DEPARTMENT: Planning PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) ~N <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Elementary School Capacity Calculations Craig Benedict, 245-2592 <br />for 1:23 and 1:21 Class Size Ratios for Perdita Holtz, 245-2611 <br />both School Districts <br />PURPOSE: To address the questions raised at the March 27, 2007 BOCC meeting regarding <br />amendments to class size ratios and school capacity. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Origin: March 27, 2007 BOCC meeting -Questions regarding class size ratios <br />and school capacity. <br />Who's <br />Involved: SAPFOTAC <br />Status: Clarification regarding school capacity was received from the school <br />districts. <br />Upcoming <br />Issue: Certification of 2007 SAPFOTAC report in June. <br />Description: There were questions from the BOCC regarding the reduction in seats <br />available at the Elementary level when reduced class size ratios are <br />implemented the year after the next elementary school opens. <br />Full Report: ' In response to a BOCC request for additional information, both school <br />districts were asked to verify their previously reported capacity numbers <br />when the K-3 class size reductions go into effect. <br />The recalculated Elementary level capacity figures are as follows: <br />Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools: capacity of 4,659 which is a <br />reduction of 262 seats from current capacity levels (no change from <br />
