1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. - '„ <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: March 8, 1993 <br /> SUBJECT: ESTABLISHMENT OF A MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL NEW HOPE ADVISORY <br /> GROUP <br /> DEPARTMENT: COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO: X <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : CHARGE, COMPOSITION INFORMATION CONTACT: MOSES CAREY <br /> AND STAFFING <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER - <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-5401 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider the establishment of a multi-jurisdictional New Hope <br /> Advisory Group and the guidelines for its establishment. <br /> BACKGROUND: The New Hope Corridor Open Space Plan was adopted in concept <br /> by the jurisdictions of Durham County, City of Durham, Chapel Hill and <br /> Orange County in early 1992. <br /> The Durham-Chapel Hill Work Group, with the assistance of Pearson Stewart <br /> and other citizens and staff developed a set of guidelines concerning the <br /> establishment of a permanent advisory committee. Those guidelines have <br /> been sent to all four governing bodies for approval. The guidelines call <br /> for the group to have representatives of a large number of organizations <br /> and to have official representatives from the four jurisdictions appointed <br /> by Greenway, Open Space or Parks Commissions, not by the elected <br /> officials. Staffing also needs to be approved by elected officials. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : To approve the establishment of the New Hope Advisory <br /> Group and guidelines for its establishment. <br />
