This land is considered unsuitable for most <br /> development activity. <br /> WATER SUPPLY WATERSHED: Applied to the areas draining into <br /> University Lake and Cane Creek Reservoir, the category <br /> refers to lands that are to be protected from development <br /> that might cause water quality problems for existing and <br /> potential public drinking water supplies . <br /> WATER QUALITY CRITICAL AREA: These are lands that drain <br /> directly into water impoundments that serve as public <br /> water supply and require even a greater degree of protection <br /> from the negative impacts of development. <br /> PUBLLIC INTEREST AREAS : These are public and quasi-public <br /> lands, such as Duke Forest, that provide eduactional and <br /> recreational opportunites . There areas also form a crucial <br /> component of the County' s open space. <br /> A total of three activity nodes have been designated in <br /> Bingham Township : <br /> REFERENCE: BH-1 (Adam & Eve) <br /> LOCATION: NC54 and Morrow Mill Rd. (SR1958 ) <br /> PLAN CATEGORY: Rural Neighborhood <br /> EVALUATION: This node is located at the intersection of <br /> the Township' s main arterial road, NC54, and a collector <br /> road. Several commercial uses, including a wholesale <br /> mail-order distribution firm, are located in or adjacent to <br /> the node. No environmental constraints are associated with <br /> the node. <br /> REFERENCE: BH-2 (White Cross) <br /> LOCATION: NC54 and White Cross Road (SR1952 ) <br /> PLAN CATEGORY: Rural Community <br /> EVALUATION: The node, situated at NC54 and White Cross <br /> Road, extends almost to Butler Road on the east.
