These are locations where the provision of <br /> services to neighborhood-area residents occurs. RURAL CROSSROADS <br /> represent specific locations where convenience-level services have <br /> been provided over time. Most of these services are linked closely <br /> to the transportation network - specifically the automobile . <br /> These recommendations recognize and augment these important <br /> crossroads for their importance in regional service provision. <br /> RURAL CROSSROADS IN ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 1 . WALNUT GROVE CHURCH ROAD AT LITTLE RIVER CHURCH ROAD <br /> (CEDAR GROVE TWP) <br /> 2 . NC 86 AT CARR STORE ROAD (CEDAR GROVE TWP) <br /> 3 . NC 86 AT WALNUT GROVE CHURCH ROAD (CEDAR GROVE TWP) <br /> 4 . NEW SHARON CHURCH ROAD AT SCHLEY ROAD (LITTLE RIVER/ENO TWPS) <br /> 5 . NC 86 AT COLEMAN LOOP ROAD (HILLSBOROUGH TWP) <br /> 6 . US 70 BYPASS AT US 70 BUSINESS (HILLSBOROUGH TWP) <br /> 7 . MEBANE-OAKS ROAD AT OAK GROVE CHURCH ROAD (BINGHAM TWP) <br /> 8 . NC 54 AT MORROW MILL ROAD (BINGHAM TWP) <br /> RURAL CROSSROADS DEVELOPMENT OPTIONS <br /> 1. ALL OPTIONS PERMITTED BY RIGHT IN RURAL COUNTRYSIDE (ABOVE) . <br /> 2 . Crossroads Commercial Development <br /> This development option would allow non-residential development <br /> within the 1/4-mile radius of the crossroads. Specific uses and <br /> standards will be developed as part of a Small Area Plan process in <br /> 1993-94 . <br /> Small Area Plans in each of these areas will be conducted as part <br /> of the regular update to the Land Use Element of the Comprehensive <br /> Plan. When these plans are completed and adopted by both residents <br /> and the County Commission, existing standards may be replaced or <br /> added to with community-designed standards. <br /> C. RURAL COMMUNITY CENTERS <br /> There are five RURAL COMMUNITY CENTERS with historic and <br /> traditional significance recognized by the County Comprehensive <br /> Plan as special places. These communities all date over 100 years <br /> in some form and are strategically located along former and/or <br /> existing regional transportation corridors .
