Pf / -1-937 <br /> C5530-2/93 <br /> LIBRARY TECHNICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate semi-skilled maintenance and responsible <br /> clerical work in maintaining equipment and collections; does related <br /> work as required. <br /> Work is performed under regular supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Assesses damage to library materials and makes repairs; applies <br /> glue, tape, covers, etc. in order to place materials back into <br /> circulation; performs routine cleaning of book covers; <br /> Tests and repairs video and audio tapes; determines the problem with <br /> tapes and makes repairs; opens cases and cuts and splices tape; <br /> replaces cases if necessary; makes determination if tapes should be <br /> repaired or discarded; <br /> Maintains and repairs audio-visual equipment; cleans equipment by <br /> using glass cleaner and brushes; tests equipment and replaces parts <br /> as necessary; makes adjustments in gears for proper operation; makes <br /> determination if equipment should be repaired or discarded; <br /> Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on general usage equipment <br /> and furniture; calls service technicians for repairs on equipment <br /> under service contract; cleans external surfaces of equipment, <br /> furniture, and shelves; cleans up kitchen; <br /> Provides input and assistance in making purchasing decisions on <br /> computer hardware, software, and supplies; <br /> Installs new computer hardware and software and supports staff in <br /> its use; provides assistance to library patrons in the use of <br /> equipment; <br /> Empties bookdrop; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Some knowledge of computer hardware and software; some knowledge of <br /> library material repair including some knowledge of standard <br /> procedures and materials used in making repairs; some knowledge of <br /> the operation and repair of audio-visual equipment; some knowledge <br /> of general library operations; skill in the use of book repair <br /> materials; ability to identify and make needed repairs on materials <br /> and equipment. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation <br /> from high school and at least two years experience working with <br /> library materials and audio-visual equipment. <br />
