r q3 5 , <br /> rr <br /> C5510-2/93 <br /> LIBRARY ASSISTANT II <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate skilled clerical work in providing specialized <br /> books and materials for library patrons; does related work as <br /> required. <br /> Work is performed under regular supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Coordinates and fills patrons' requests for materials; searches in <br /> library for requested materials by checking stacks and files; <br /> Manages collection of highly requested material; <br /> Creates a computerized interlibrary loan (ILL) workform; mails ILL <br /> to lending library and maintains a file of client requests; <br /> processes materials for circulation; <br /> Performs online searches for materials using the Online Computer <br /> Library Center (OCLC) database; locates materials and verifies <br /> potential lenders; creates workforms and sends electronically to <br /> potential lending libraries; receives materials and processes for <br /> circulation; <br /> Records and processes all requests for State Library films; manages <br /> file of all film clients and orders; <br /> Maintains budget for state films; <br /> Logs onto NCIN database and downloads bulletin boards and files; <br /> Performs circulation duties by working the front desk; provides <br /> assistance to patrons, answers questions, checks books in and out; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> General knowledge of library operations and materials; general <br /> knowledge of books and authors; general knowledge of Online Computer <br /> Library Center; general knowledge of database research; general <br /> knowledge of automated systems; ability to work effectively with the <br /> general public; ability to locate materials and process necessary <br /> paperwork; ability to interpret and follow information and <br /> instructions contained in technical reference manuals; ability to <br /> work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective <br /> working relationships with the general public, other agencies, and <br /> other employees; ability to work with automated systems. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion <br /> of two years of college and at least one year of experience working <br /> in a public library. <br />
