p 07_,L,93 11' <br /> r 1 <br /> C5570-2/93 <br /> CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult professional work in planning and implementing <br /> children's library services; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Develops children's collection for the library; <br /> Selects appropriate materials and processes orders; <br /> Develops an overall plan for children's services and makes <br /> provisions for special projects; <br /> Writes grant proposals, spends allocated money, and submits reports <br /> on expenditures; <br /> Recommends annual budget for children's division; <br /> Develops programming for children including storytime, book club, <br /> and cultural programs; <br /> Advises parents and children on appropriate materials;. <br /> Works with schools child care centers, and other child oriented <br /> agencies to plan programs; <br /> Produces publicity materials for children's services; <br /> Markets programs to appeal to parents and children; distributes <br /> press releases; <br /> Works general circulation desk assisting patrons, checking books in <br /> and out, and answering questions; <br /> Participates in professional organizations; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: <br /> Comprehensive knowledge of general library operations; comprehensive <br /> knowledge of children's subjects and authors; comprehensive <br /> knowledge of book classification; comprehensive knowledge of <br /> reference materials; ability to work effectively with children and <br /> parents; ability to maintain control of groups of children; ability <br /> to communicate programs to the public; ability to plan effective <br /> programs; ability to develop an effective collection of children's <br /> materials. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters <br /> degree in library science and at least two years professional <br /> library experience in children's programs. <br />
