Carey, County Commission Chair <br /> FROM: Ori.leen Helton, The ArtsCenter <br /> RE: Violence Prevention Grant Proposal <br /> DATE: 21 January 1993 <br /> The ArtsCenter asks the support of Orange County for a grant <br /> proposal . The application is a two year demonstration project <br /> which will attempt to reduce violence in at-risk children ages 9- <br /> 14 through an arts program (see attached summary) . <br /> We are asking the Town of Carrboro to be the lead agency in <br /> coordination with the Town of Chapel Hill in this proposal . The <br /> ArtsCenter will be the subcontractor and provide all program <br /> planning and coordination. We are asking that the Towns of <br /> Carrboro and Chapel Hill provide transportation, screening and <br /> selection process and counseling/therapeutic consulting for the <br /> first year of the grant. <br /> In the second year we would like to extend the project to include <br /> all of Orange County and ask that Orange County sustain the <br /> project with the same support services that the .towns are being <br /> asked to provide. The cost for these services will be contained <br /> in the budget of the grant proposal and will require no <br /> expenditure on the part of the towns or county other than that <br /> which is reimbursed by the grant. <br /> We will be submitting the grant on 15 February 1993 with a <br /> projected start date of September/October 1993. <br /> I would appreciate your putting this item on the agenda for the <br /> February 1, 1993 commission meeting if possible. <br /> Thank you <br /> • <br />
