21 <br /> D. APPLICATION TIMETABLE <br /> As Congressional and DOI schedules and directives allow, the <br /> timetable for applications shall be as follows: <br /> 1. DOI notifies North Carolina SHPO of projected annual <br /> allocation. <br /> 2 . Thirty (30) days later, SHPO notifies CLG of <br /> availability of funds. <br /> 3 . Sixty (60) days later, SHPO receives applications from <br /> CLGs. (Following evaluation and selection process, <br /> SHPO submits required Project Descriptions to DOI for <br /> project approval and obligation of funds. These <br /> activities require approximately sixty (60) days) . <br /> 4. Thirty (30) days after SHPO receives formal obligation <br /> of funds from DOI, SHPO notifies local government of <br /> grant awards. <br /> E. FUNDING PRIORITIES <br /> CLGs shall be awarded funds on a competitive application <br /> basis. The state is not required to award funds to all CLGs <br /> that are eligible to receive funds. The annual project <br /> emphasis will be determined by the SHPO and conveyed to CLGs <br /> as early as possible in the grant application cycle. Within <br /> a local government area, the usual sequence of activities is <br /> as follows: <br /> 1. Identification of historic and prehistoric resources. <br /> Projects could include: <br /> a. An historical/architectural survey of a county, <br /> town, downtown area or residential neighborhood. <br /> b. An archaeological survey. <br /> Identification of resources as the result of a survey <br /> will be a prerequisite for projects involving the <br /> evaluation or protection of resources unless otherwise <br /> justified. <br /> 2 . Evaluation and Protection of historic and prehistoric <br /> resources based on local need. <br /> Projects could include: <br /> a. Nominations to the NRHP. (Nominations may be <br /> individual structures or sites; historic district <br /> t. or multiple resource nominations, which include <br />
