/-/f-Y5
ORANGE COUNTY
HILLSBOROUGH
NORTH CAROLINA
..$1areae.14 zce- cc ta/ eol1762
January 20, 1993
Ms. Lloyd Childers
State Historic Preservation Office
N.C. Division of Archives and History
109 East Jones Street
Raleigh, N.C. 27601-2807
Dear Ms. Childers:
At its January 19, 1993 meeting, the Orange County Board of
Commissioners authorized me to submit the enclosed applications for
designation as a Certified Local Government (CLG) and a 1993 CLG
Survey and Planning Grant Funds. Although Orange County has not
been designated a CLG, the County is hopeful of obtaining such
status. If, for some reason, CLG designation is not made, Orange
County requests that this application be considered for non-CLG
Survey and Planning funding.
As noted in the application, we wish to conduct an
archaeological survey of Orange County and prepare the manuscript
for our inventory publication. The project represents Phase III of
a comprehensive historic preservation program which will become an
integral part of our comprehensive planning process. Phase II is
currently underway and involves an inventory of all unincorporated
portions of Orange County except Chapel Hill Township. The
inventory of that township was completed in June, 1992 as Phase I
of our program.
Should you have any questions about either application, please
feel free to contact Marvin Collins, Planning Director for Orange
County. He will be the Contact Person as well as the Project
Coordinator. He can be reached at (919) 732-8181 - Extension 2592 .
Sin r- ly,
•n R. in
County Manager
CC: Marvin Collins, Planning Director
