Orange County Phase II Contract <br /> Page 2 <br /> C. SUMMARY METHODOLOGY FOR INVENTORY OF HISTORIC RESOURCES: <br /> The Consultant will conduct the Survey according to the research design <br /> developed in Phase I of the project with the guidance and support of the <br /> Local Coordinator and the Division Representative and will follow <br /> guidelines in The North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office <br /> Survey Manual: Instructions for Recordinc Historic Resources <br /> (hereinafter cited as NC Survey Manual) , supplementary guidelines <br /> provided by the Division, and the calendar and details of the project <br /> schedule developed by the Consultant. These state standards are in <br /> compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's "Standards for <br /> Identification" and "Standards for Evaluation. " Any publications <br /> produced from the inventory must be reviewed and approved by the <br /> Division before publication. This review will include design and <br /> content. <br /> The Consultant will record all significant properties in the project <br /> area individually or in groups either by completion of the Statewide <br /> Survey inventory form and photographic recording and mapping or map- <br /> coding according to Division system for Statewide Survey. General <br /> standards (adapted to the resources of the project area) for inclusion <br /> of categories or types of properties individually, in groups, or by map <br /> coding will be established by the Consultant with the advice of the <br /> Division. These standards will be part of the project methodology <br /> developed by the consultant. The Consultant will work closely with <br /> local historians and other individuals to ensure accurate coverage of <br /> local history. Oral history and primary documentation will be collected <br /> and integrated where possible. The Consultant will evaluate properties <br /> using National Register criteria and with reference to appropriate <br /> contexts. <br /> For the purposes of payment and the satisfaction of the terms of this <br /> contract it is understood that the completion of the survey in specified <br /> areas of the county, represented by USGS quadrangles or other <br /> geographical units, consists of the following items: <br /> 1. Intensive field work in the designated area including a review of <br /> all structures on all roads and streets and map-coding or survey <br /> of all significant structures on all roads and streets. At the <br /> completion of the survey, the working maps used by the.consultant <br /> in the field will be submitted, along with one complete set of <br /> clean neatly labelled USGS maps showing the specific location of <br /> all sites (building, properties, districts) recorded and map-coded <br /> during the survey. <br />
