1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Agenda
Item No. =&
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: January 18, 1993
SUBJECT: Increase in Number of Hours for Permanent Part-time Drivers
DEPARTMENT: Aging - C.A.T. PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO: X
ATTACHMENT(S) : None INFORMATION CONTACT: Jerry Passmore
TELEPHONE NUMBER-
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
PURPOSE:
To request approval to increase the number of hours worked per week for
three (3) of the permanent part-time C.A.T. driver positions established
through the FY 92 budget process. The positions were originally
budgeted for 26, 27, and 30 hours. This request would permanently
increase the hours worked per week to 35, 35, and 40 respectively.
BACKGROUND:
When the FY 92 budget was adopted, the hours worked per week was
determined by the workload of the previous fiscal year. In September,
1992 the Board of Commissioners approved the inclusion of the Wake
Opportunities, Inc. Head Start program as an agency that would pur-
chase driver services from C.A.T. It was determined at that time
that these additional responsibilities could be handled by existing
staff. That decision has resulted in the increased work week for the
three positions listed above. Temporary approval was granted until
the new service had operated long enough to verify the amount of
increase for each position. After three months of operation the
Department staff is confident that these higher figures are accurate.
The additional driver hours are billed to the Head Start contract.
If the Head Start contract is discontinued, driver time will be
reduced.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
The Manager recommends approval.
