1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Agenda
Item No V1S- °C.
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: January 4, 1993
SUBJECT: Solid Waste Management Goals
DEPARTMENT County Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING YES NO X
ATTACHMENT(S) INFORMATION CONTACT
12/8/92 Memo from Chapel Hill Don Willhoit
Solid Waste Agenda Committee
TELEPHONE NUMBER
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Mebane 227-2031
Durham 688-7331
PURPOSE: To receive information about the development of solid waste
management goals.
BACKGROUND: The local governments that comprise the Orange Regional
Landfill Owners' Group have for some months been considering the
establishment of solid waste management goals and objectives. A
committee of three members of the Chapel Hill Town Council met and
developed, for discussion by the full Council, a set of solid waste
goals for Chapel Hill based on the goals established by the State of
North Carolina.
The consensus of the members at the most recent LOG meeting (December
16, 1992) was that each local government should develop its own set of
solid waste management goals. These would be brought to the LOG with
the intent of working out a common set of goals for the LOG. The
outcome would likely be a tiered approach with a set of goals agreed
upon by all jurisdictions, and other sets of goals pertinent to . .
specific jurisdictions.
It is suggested that comments be solicited from the Orange County Solid
Waste Committee as the County develops its set of solid waste
management goals.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : Receive as information.
