PURPOSE <br /> 1.1. This guideline applies to all emergency operations and training exercises where strenuous <br /> physical activity or exposure to heat or cold creates the need for the rehabilitation of personnel. It <br /> was promulgated to: <br /> 1.1.1. Prevent i juries, illnesses,and deaths tha may result from exces ivufatiAvo. <br /> 1.12. Establish procedures for medical evaluation and treatment food and fluid replenishment. <br /> and relief from extreme climatic conditions during emergency operations and prolonged <br /> training exercises. <br /> 2. OSHA REQUIRMENTS <br /> 2.1. The incident commander shall consider the circumstances of each incident and make suitable <br /> provisions of rest mid rehabilitation for members operating at the scene, These provisions shall <br /> be in accordance with Section 4-4 of NFPA 1561,"Standard on Fire 1)epartment Incident <br /> Management System",and shall include medical evaluation and treatment, food and fluid <br /> replacement,and relief from extreme climatic conditions,according to the circumstances of the <br /> incident. <br /> / 0 <br /> 3. POLICIES <br /> . <br /> 3.1. The incident commander shall evaluate the circumstances at each incident and shall make early, <br /> adequate provisions for the rest and rehab of all members working at the scene. These provisions <br /> include: <br /> l|.|. Medical evaluation. <br /> 3.12. 'l'reatment and monitoring. <br /> 3.1.3. Food and fluid replacement <br /> 3.1/4. Mental rest. <br /> 3.1.5. Relief from extreme climatic conditions and other environmental factors presen at the <br /> incident. <br /> 3.2. During prolonged incidents,strenuous training sessions,and periods of extreme heat or cold,the <br /> incident commander shall request that the rehab unit be dispatched to the scene and shall appoint <br /> a rehab officer to manage the rehabilitation of the team members. <br /> 3.3. The Rehab Log shall be completed by the rehab officer at all Level O incidents. The log shall be <br /> submitted to the incident commander to be attached to the incident report,and it shall be included <br /> as part of the incident postmortem.
