The document may be sent to the appropriate officer via registered mail to the <br /> organizations PO Box 128 Carrboro,NC 27510 as an alternate method of <br /> notification. <br /> 5.2. Investigation of Grievance <br /> 5.2.1. If the grievance is not within the purview of the receiving officer,the written grievance <br /> shall be forwarded up the chain of command to the appropriate officer,herein referred to <br /> as `respondent'. <br /> 5.2.2. The respondent shall investigate the grievance and make a reasonable attempt to resolve <br /> the grievance between the grievant and other party/parties involved. <br /> 5.2.3. The respondent shall communicate a decision to the grievant within no more than ten(10) <br /> calendar days(counting the time spent in investigation and any negotiations)from the <br /> date that the respondent received the grievance. <br /> 5.3. Appeal <br /> 5.3.1. The grievant may appeal the decision of the respondent to the respondent's supervisor or <br /> the Board of Directors. <br /> 5.3.2. The Board of Directors will be asked if a special meeting shall be called to review the <br /> grievance or if the matter can be addressed via electronic correspondence. <br /> 5.3.3. If a special meeting is to be called,notification of a closed session of the Board of <br /> Directors shall be sent to the member filing the grievance as specified in SORS Bylaws <br /> Article III. <br /> 5.3.4. The Board of Directors shall review the grievance presented. <br /> 5.3.4.1. The Board of Directors reserves the right to conduct an investigation into the <br /> particulars of the grievance or to hold additional sessions to discuss and resolve the <br /> complaint. <br /> 5.3.5.
