SECTION Occupational Safety& Health <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S,O.G. No 405.07 <br /> GUIDELINES <br /> SUBJECT Walking &Working Surfaces <br /> E. Portable ladders will be adequate for their purpose, in good condition, and <br /> have secure footing. <br /> 1. Ground ladders will meet the applicable requirements set forth in the <br /> Standard Operating Guidelines for Ground Ladders. <br /> 2. Fixed ladders will be equipped with side rails, cages, or special <br /> climbing devices. <br /> F. Members who smoke or use tobacco products will be permitted to do so <br /> outside of buildings and at least 20 feet from vehicles or equipment. <br /> G. First aid supplies will be available on all equipment. <br /> H. Shower curtains will be provided to prevent floors from becoming <br /> excessively wet and slippery around showers. <br /> I, Members will keep cooking appliances and eating utensils clean and in <br /> good working order. <br /> J. Members will keep all exits visible, free from obstructions, decorations, <br /> and/or furnishings. <br /> 1. Exits will not be locked or blocked while the building is in use. <br /> 2. Doors that could be mistaken as exits will be marked, "Not an Exit". <br /> 3. An emergency escape route will be posted near all exits. <br /> K. Member's beds will be located to keep minimum interference during alarm <br /> turnouts. <br /> L. Members will assure that apparatus overhead doors are maintained in a <br /> safe and operating condition. <br /> 1. Members will notify their superior officer of any defects. <br /> M. Members will assure that all maintenance pits are adequately covered or <br /> pit boundaries are visible. <br /> 1. Members will keep the pit floor clean and dry as possible. <br /> N. All scaffolding used at the squad during construction or repairs will be in <br /> accordance with OSHA 1910.28 and 1910.29. <br /> 1. A certificate of insurance will be required for all contractors working at <br /> the squad. <br /> Page 2 of 2 <br />
