PURPOSE. <br /> In the interest of TRT member's health and safety, this document is <br /> established to provide and acquaint members with the policies and <br /> procedures for safe walking and working surfaces. <br /> I1. REFERENCES. <br /> A. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1500, <br /> "Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program". <br /> B. North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission Department Occupational <br /> Safety and Health Program for Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, <br /> Subpart D, Walking and Working Surfaces, 1910.22, 1910.23, and <br /> 1910.24; 1910.27, 1910.28, and 1910.29. <br /> III. PROCEDURE. <br /> A. Emergency instructions and telephone numbers will be available for the <br /> general public, in the event of an emergency and personnel are out of <br /> quarters. <br /> B. Members will keep all rooms, offices, hallways, storage rooms, and the <br /> apparatus floor clean, safe, orderly and in a sanitary condition. <br /> 1. All hallways and/or passageways will be free from any type of <br /> protruding objects. <br /> 2. Waste containers will be provided in the kitchen and/or eating areas <br /> with liners. <br /> a. Waste containers will have tight fitting lids. <br /> 3. All waste containers will be emptied regularly. <br /> C. All areas of the station will be adequately illuminated. <br /> 1. Members will replace any burnt out bulbs and notify their superior <br /> officers of any possible electrical defects. <br /> D. Stairways will have standard railings provided for every flight having four <br /> or more risers. <br /> 1.
