SECTION Occupational Safety and Health <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S.O.G. No 405.02 <br /> GUIDELINES <br /> SUBJECT Occupational Noise Exposure <br /> I. SCOPE. <br /> In the interest of TRT members health and safety, this document is <br /> established for the wearing of proper hearing protection when exposed to <br /> sounds that could produce hearing loss. <br /> II. REFERENCES. <br /> A, Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1500, <br /> "Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program". <br /> B. North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission Department Occupational <br /> Safety and Health Program for Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, <br /> Subpart L — Chapter 5, Protective Clothing and Protective Equipment, 5- <br /> 11, Hearing Protection and Subpart G, 1910.095. <br /> C. Current edition of the American National Standard Institute's (ANSI) <br /> 53.19-1974, Standard on Hearing Requirements, <br /> 111. OSHA REQUIREMENTS. <br /> A. The Technical Rescue Team (TRT) will provide members with proper <br /> hearing protection in the accordance with OSHA 1910.095, Occupational <br /> Noise Exposure. <br /> IV. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT. <br /> A. Hearing protection consist of but not limited to: <br /> 1. ANSI.S3.19-1974 compliance earmuffs. <br /> 2. ANSI.S3.19-1974 compliance ear plugs. <br /> V. PROCEDURE. <br /> A. Hearing protection will be selected on the basis of hazards to which the <br /> member is exposed. <br /> 1. Hearing protection is to be worn by all persons, including visitors when <br /> exposed to high levels of noise. <br /> 2. When operating power tools and equipment, i.e., chain saw, Hurst tool, <br /> air chisel, all members will be required to use hearing protection. <br /> 3. Whenever a TRT member has to raise their voice to be heard hearing <br /> protection shall be worn. <br /> Page 1 of 1 <br />
