SECTION Occupational Safety&Health <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S.O.G. No 402.02 <br /> GUIDELINES <br /> SUBJECT SCBA Training <br /> B. Monthly at each team training: <br /> 1. Each piece of SCBA and SABA equipment shall be inspected monthly <br /> at the TRT training session. <br /> 2. The inspection shall be made to ensure that the SCBA and SABA is <br /> fully charged, clean, free of damage, and fully operational. <br /> 3. All spare cylinders shall also be inspected. <br /> 4. Cleaning or refilling cylinders shall be done by a member who is a <br /> competent person. <br /> 5. Members will notify the Logistics Section Chief of any needed repairs <br /> or the replacement of defective parts. <br /> 6. Repairs or part replacement will be done only by qualified persons. <br /> 7. The completed checklists shall be forwarded to the Logistics Section <br /> Chief, <br /> C. Any air cylinder that is not used within a period of three months shall be <br /> emptied and refilled. This shall be done on the TRT team trainings at the <br /> end of each calendar quarter. <br /> D. Semiannual inspection: <br /> 1. All SCBAs and SABAs shall be inspected and serviced every six <br /> months by the Logistics Section Chief or by an authorized repair <br /> facility. <br /> 2. The inspection and servicing shall include the following: <br /> a. Disassembly and cleaning of the regulator and other major <br /> components, such as the low-air alarm, facepiece, etc. <br /> b. Checks shall be made for rust, corrosion, moisture, damage, and <br /> evidence of oil or hydrocarbon contamination. <br /> d. Replacement of all worn parts. <br /> e. Reassembly of the SCBA or SABA and testing for proper function. <br /> VII. BREATHING AIR SUPPLIES. <br /> A. All compressed breathing cylinders will be marked and meet U.S. <br /> Department of Transportation requirements for interstate shipment as <br /> required by MSHA/NIOSH 49 CFR Part 178. <br /> B. All breathing air produced for use in a SCBA or SABA will meet or exceed <br /> the requirements of Grade D breathing air as specified in the Compressed <br /> Gas Association Pamphlet G-7.1 — 1966 Commodity Specifications for Air. <br /> Tests shall be conducted quarterly by an independent testing service to <br /> Page 6 of 9 <br />
