SECTION Occupational Safety& Health <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S.O.G. No 400.02 <br /> GUIDELINES <br /> SUBJECT Safety Officer <br /> I. PURPOSE. <br /> This standard establishes the position of Safety Officer. It was promulgated <br /> to assign the responsibility for the Technical Rescue Team's occupational <br /> safety and health program to a single individual. <br /> IL REFERENCES. <br /> A. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1500, <br /> "Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program". <br /> B. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1521, <br /> "Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer". <br /> III. PROCEDURE. <br /> A. The Assistant Chief—TRT shall serve as the TRT's Safety Officer. <br /> B. The TRT Safety Officer shall: <br /> 1. Acquaint himself/herself with the provisions of NFPA 1500, Standard <br /> on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, and <br /> NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer. <br /> 2. Manage the TRT's occupational safety and health program. <br /> C. The duties of the TRT's Safety Officer shall include but not be limited to: <br /> 1. Identifying safety and health hazards and developing plans to correct <br /> them. <br /> 2. Immediately correcting situations that create an imminent hazard to the <br /> members of the TRT. <br /> 3. Training members to act as incident safety officers. <br /> 4. Maintaining records of accidents, occupational deaths, injuries, <br /> illnesses, and exposures and providing analysis and reports to the <br /> Chief as directed. <br /> 5. Acting as the TRT's liaison with Orange County's risk manager. <br /> 6. Serving as chair of the TRT's safety committee. In this capacity, the <br /> Safety Officer shall prepare and distribute meeting agendas and <br /> notices and shall forward a copy of the minutes of each meeting to the <br /> chief. <br /> 7. Providing safety training, bulletins, posters, and newsletters to all <br /> members. <br /> 8. Performing other duties as specified in NFPA 1521 or as directed by <br /> the chief. <br /> Page 1 of 1 <br />
