SECTION Occupational Safety&Health <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S.O.G. No 401.02 <br /> GUIDELINES Emergency Equipment <br /> SUBJECT Care&Maintenance <br /> I. PURPOSE. <br /> In the interest of the TRT member's health and safety, this document is <br /> established to provide guidelines for the acquisition, maintenance, <br /> inspection, repair, and safe use of department emergency tools and <br /> equipment. <br /> II. REFERENCES. <br /> A. North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission Department Occupational <br /> Safety and Health Program for Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, <br /> Section 1910.16, Chapter 4—5, Tools and Equipment. <br /> B. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 10, "Portable <br /> Fire Extinguishers". <br /> C. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1931, <br /> "Standard of and Design Verification Tests for Fire Department Ground <br /> Ladders". <br /> D. Current edition of the National Fire Protection Association's 1932, <br /> "Standard on Use, Maintenance and Service Testing of Ground Ladders". <br /> III. OSHA REQUIREMENTS. <br /> A. The TRT shall develop and implement guidelines for the acquisition, <br /> operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of department tools and <br /> equipment in accordance with OSHA 4—5, Tools and Equipment. <br /> IV. GENERAL. <br /> A. The manufacturer's recommendations on operating guidelines, safety, and <br /> protective clothing shall be adhered to when operating all emergency tools <br /> and equipment. <br /> B. All equipment utilized for rescue operations shall be specifically designed <br /> for this type of use. <br /> C. All equipment on department apparatus, or designated for training shall be <br /> inspected quarterly or within 24 hours after each use. <br /> D. Inventory and maintenance records shall be maintained on all emergency <br /> tools and equipment carried on department apparatus, or designated for <br /> training. <br /> Page 1 of 1 <br />
