SECTION Emergency Operations <br /> STANDARD <br /> OPERATING S.O.G. No 603.01 <br /> GUIDELINES <br /> SUBJECT Rope Rescue <br /> b) Be prepared to rappel and ascend back up with belay. <br /> c) Protect the working and belay lines from edge trauma. <br /> d) Help the attendant negotiate the edge. <br /> e) Call sign: Edgeman <br /> 10.6 Safety Officer. <br /> a) Assigned only if sufficient personnel available. <br /> b) Responsible for on scene safety. <br /> c) Call sign: Safety <br /> 11 ORDER OF RESCUE. <br /> Because of the high risks involved in high-angle rescue, the method of <br /> rescue offering the lowest risk to the rescuer will be used. The following <br /> methods are listed in increasing order of risk. Factors influencing the <br /> selection include patients condition, rigging time, available manpower, and <br /> available equipment, and weather conditions. <br /> 11.1 Walk. <br /> 11.2 Walk or climb with a belay or handline. <br /> 11.3 Rappel or lower with a belay or handline. <br /> 11.4 Pick off with an independent belay. <br /> 11.5 Pick Off with a bottom belay or Prusik belay. <br /> 11.6 Subject raised with a belay. <br /> 11.7 Rescuer and subject raised with a belay. <br /> 11.8 Stretcher evacuation. <br /> Page 6 of 10 <br />
