1. EMS personnel should provide clear, concise, and detailed documentation of all death <br /> scenes as they are often cited as components of legal actions. <br /> 2. Patients with valid Do Not Resuscitate orders or Most forms will be managed according <br /> to North State Medical Transport Protocols. <br /> 3. Staff should be notified of any deceased patient found in a facility, the local 911 center <br /> should be notified for any patient found at home and witnessed arrest should follow the <br /> patient care protocols unless they have advanced directives. <br /> 4. Unless needed to assist with the medical, emotional needs of the family, or bystanders, <br /> North State Medical Transport units should leave the scene and returned to service when <br /> the call has been turned over to the appropriate agency or agencies. <br /> 5. No unit shall leave a scene until the patient has been released to another appropriate <br /> agency. <br /> 6. Any staff having questions regarding the above Policies &Procedures should <br /> immediately contact the management staff after rendering medical care. <br /> 7. Hospice patients shall be transported to the original point of destination unless otherwise <br /> pre-determined. <br /> 0-15- Transportation of Deceased Bodies <br /> I. It is not the responsibility of North State Medical Transport to transport deceased <br /> persons. At times this need may be required. <br /> 2. North State Medical Transport personnel shall only transport non-contagious, non- <br /> decomposing, deceased persons at the authorization of the Director of Operations or other <br /> administrator. <br /> 0-16-Hospital and Medical Facility Conduct <br /> 1. North State Medical Transport personnel should conduct themselves as health care <br /> professionals whenever at a hospital or medical care facility. <br /> 2. North State Medical Transport personnel will comply with facility regulations whenever <br /> at a hospital or other medical facilities, including but not limited to tobacco use, vehicle <br /> parking, etc. <br /> 3. Any staff which does not adhere to local facility policies will be subject to the <br /> disciplinary process. <br /> 0-17- Supervisory Notifications <br /> 1. Supervisors and managers will be notified of incidents based upon the severity of the <br /> event and potential for impact on operations. <br /> 2. Incidents will be categorized as either basic or significant in nature. <br /> 3. Each category will require notifications and documentation. <br /> 4. Basic and significant Incidents will require notification of the Supervisor, Director of <br /> Operations or administrative staff and the completion of an incident report on the event. <br /> Examples of Basic incidents include but are not limited to: <br /> 84 <br />
