Problems include:
1. No comparison of the cost to clean up of the Haw River to permit
safe drinkable water.
2. No weighing of the problems of removing synthetic organic
chemicals versus non-point source contributions. The former
is a much more difficult contaminant to remove in terms of cost
and technology.
IMPACT:
Comments will be used in preparing the final EIS. The final EIS will
be part of the evidence considered when the Environmental Management
Commission considers granting OWASA eminent domain power for acquiring
land to build the Cane Creek reservoir.
- RECOMMENDATION:
As the Board decides.
