Technical <br /> 27611 assistance from a staff of restoration and survey specialists, archa- <br /> eologists, a preservation planner, and an environmental review <br /> coordinator will, be available to the public. Limited federal funds <br /> may also be available for nonconstruction activities through a <br /> matching grants-in-aid program of the National Park Service, Depart- <br /> ment of the Interior. The purpose of this cooperative program between <br /> the states and federal government is to encourage public participation <br /> in the identification, evaluation, and protection of the archaeological <br /> and historic resources of the state. Your interest in one of the following <br /> activities would allow the Division to assess the preservation needs <br /> of the state and focus technical assistance and any available grant money <br /> on worthy projects which have matching capabilities and are willing to <br /> begin work early in 1983. <br /> If your organization or agency would like to participate in this program <br /> of preservation assistance, please begin by filling out the enclosed <br /> Preapplication Form for one of the projects listed below. More detailed <br /> information on each project type is available upon request. Please <br /> return the Preapplication Form by May 30, 1982. Archaeological Survey: designed to locate, identify and evaluate <br /> prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, especially in areas with <br /> future development potential. <br /> 2. Preservation Planning: depending upon prior preservation activity, <br /> a project may consist of a thorough planning exercise or the execution <br /> of one or more preservation strategies.
