ATTACHMENT E <br /> Original Nov. 24, <br /> Revised December <br /> - Revised January IA <br /> PROPOSED ZONING AMENDMENTS - WATER TASK 1:::45 ec-E ,Thiasi <br /> 4.2.26 Protected Watershed, I (PW-I) District <br /> a) Intent <br /> It is the intent of Orange County to regulate the uses of land <br /> and structures in watersheds which drain to reservoirs supply- <br /> ing drinking water to the people of Orange County. The quality <br /> of water in these water supply watersheds can be affected by <br /> the activities of man including farming, construction of <br /> highways and rural subdivisions and the growth of towns and <br /> industrial development. Types of water pollutants resulting <br /> from these activities include sediment, bacterial contamination, <br /> heavy metals, synthetic organic compounds and low-level radio- <br /> activity. A task force appointed by the County Commissioners <br /> has studied the problems of water pollution. They have documented <br /> their findings in a report entitled Report of the Orange County <br /> Water Resources Task Force and dated May, 1981. That statement <br /> of problems and needs is included by reference. <br /> The intent of the Protected Watershed I (PW-I) district is to <br /> . . <br /> apply a set of regulations for watershed protection to portions <br /> of water in the watersheds • he COunty which are expected to <br /> become urban in character in the future. <br /> b) Application Criteria <br /> The Protected Watershed I (PW-I) district is established as a <br /> district which overlays other zoning districts established in <br /> this ordinance. The new use of any land or any new structure <br /> within the Protected Watershed I (PW-I) district shall comply <br /> with use regulations applicable to the underlying zoning district <br /> as well as the requirements of the PW-I district. <br /> 1. This district will be applied in the future urban portion <br /> of McGowan Creek subbasin of the Upper Eno Watershed and in <br /> other areas of water supply watersheds which may be desigAated <br /> to become urban in the next 20 years. <br />
