Wednesday, March 17, 1982, at 7:30 P.M. in the Commissioners' Room, Orange <br /> 9. County Courthouse, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> 10. The purpose of the meeting was a work session to discuss the Water <br /> Resources Task Force Report, its recomendations_and proposed amendMents':._ <br /> 12. to the Zoning Ordinance which would implement those recommendations. <br /> 13. Commissioners present: Chairman Richard E. Whitted, and Commissioners <br /> 14. Norm Gustaveson, Shirley E. Marshall, Norman Walker and Don Willhoit. <br /> 15. Mr. Fred Luce of the Planning Department reviewed the Report's <br /> 16. recommendations while Mr. Jim Polatty reviewed the proposed arrendments to <br /> 17. the Zoning Ordinance which wouldlintzaement those recommendations. <br /> 18. During the discussion, one Board member said the Board could do one <br /> 19. of two things; 1) do nothing,or, 2) accept the recommendations which assumed <br /> 20. a back up water supply for the Town of Hillsborough. <br /> ?1. -Tttuassioner Gustaveson said he felt that this report provided a <br /> 22. balanced statement between water quality and industrial development. Mr. <br /> 23. Luce said he felt it was the best plan to protect water quality; Commissioner <br /> 24. Willhoit, who was on the Task Force, said the primary concern of the Task <br /> 25. Force was for water upply and quality while attempting to provide for orderly <br /> 26. growth along areas which had transportation. <br /> 27. Mr. Don Cox, speaking as a private citizen, said that almost every <br /> 28. identified reservoir site in the Upper Eno Watershed was needed and should <br /> 29. be preserved. He suggested an engineering study on the feasibility of <br /> 30. directing drainage North of 1-85 down into Seven Mile Creek below the <br /> 31. dam; he felt that it could be made part of the eventual widening of 1-85. <br /> 12. The Board asked that the recommendations be forwarded to the Town of <br /> 3. Hillsborough Board of Commissioners for its response and thoughts on the <br /> 34. long term water supply of Hillsborough; and, that Planning work with the <br /> 35. Department of Transportation to get an engineering study which would <br /> 36. accommodate development and at the same time protect the water supply along <br /> 37. the 1-85 corridor. <br /> 380 <br /> 39. <br /> 40. <br />
