Accompanying the
resolution were a set of conditions which, if met, would substantially
alleviate our concerns. These are discussed below following a description
of the conditions under which we presently operate.
Present Conditions .
. .
. -
Oar company serves the Orange Grove Fire District which comprises some 57
square miles in Bingham Township. Within this district there is a smaller . .
Cane Creek fire district consisting of all points within 4 road miles 'of
the fire station. The homeowners within the Cane Creek fire district enjoy
lower fire insurance rates. In order to maintain the Cane Creek fire district,
we must meet certain requirements concerning equipment, manpower, and training.
One of the requirements is that we must guard against leaving the Cana Creek
district unprotected at times when we have fires in the outer reaches of the .
Orange Grove fire district.
ge maintain a roster of some 45 volunteers. Like most volunteer organizations,
the bulk of the service is contributed by half or less of the membership. On
weekends and at night we can routinely turn out about 15-25 volunteers on a
fire call. During the day when most of our members are away fromhome,-the
turn-out for a fire can be 5 or fewer. Occasionally, a second page is
required to produce sufficient manpower.
Our equipment consists of a 750 gpm pumper truck, a tanker carrying 1250
gallons, and a 4 wheel drive truck which specializes in woods fires.
The entrance to the Midway complex is just over 4.5 road miles from our
station. Because the tract is deep and narrow, approximately two-thirds of
the proposed buildings are over 5 road miles from our station. This distance
becomes relevant in the discussion below. .
1
. .
