UO74J <br /> 9j <br /> A RESOLUTION REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF AN AREA AIRPORT (81-R-88) <br /> WHEREAS, growth and development in southern Orange County have made Horace 1 <br /> Williams Airport undesirable as a permanent site for an airport; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the public interest that a site be identified to provide a suitable <br /> alternative to the Horace Williams Airport so that said airport can be phased out of <br /> use in the future; and <br /> WHEREAS, the University of North Carolina has indicated its desire and intention to <br /> phase out Horace Williams Airport; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Orange is currently considering <br /> a land use plan for Orange County; and <br /> WHEREAS, such plan should account for the needs of the community for an airport; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the <br /> Council hereby urges the Board of Commissioners of the County of Orange to act <br /> affirmatively in its land use planning to consider the need for an airport to replace <br /> Horace Williams Airport; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Chapel Hill will work cooperatively with <br /> the Board of Commissioners, the University of North Carolina and all the other public <br /> agencies and private bodies to accomplish the objective of phasing out Horace <br /> Williams Airport. <br /> This the 8th day of June, 1981. <br /> • <br /> 4 <br />
