00726
oran,.. County Planning Board
. . \
Page 2
. .
Presently (and for the foreseeable future) there are no fire hydrants in
our district. For fires requiring more viter than we carry on our trucks,
we must rely on ponds. The standard procedure is to call in mutual aid
from a neighboring district an set up a water shuttle from the pond to the
fire scene. , .
li
tle have only one large commercial structure in our district at present
(Adam aad Eve). Our experience and training presently do not prepare us
to fight a large structure fire which may involve hazardous materials such
as may be stored in the proposed Midway 'complex. We do not presently have
the equipment to fight flammable liquid fires such as may occur at an
airport.
Conditions of A. royal
.C1 -..r2122---Y' l -
1,. An abovp7ground gravity—feed tank holding a minimum of 50,000 gallons.
. .
2. A system of fire hydrants positioned so that no building is over 400
feet from a hydrant. Each hydrant must be capable of flowing water
at 1000 gpm at 20 psi. Underground pipes must be sized so that it will
be possible to obtain 1000 gpm from neighboring hydrants simultaneously.
3. Each building is to be equipped with sprinklers. The sprinkler system
is to be tied into the water system. In addition each building should
have a conveniently placed hook—up where our truck can feed into the
sprinkler system_
. ' .
4. We may also wish, on further investigation, to require a stand—by pump
to provide additional pressure to the entire system (in case of a severe
presSure drop during a fire) .
5. It would be desirable if the hydrant nearest highway 54 could be made
uve.ilabla for training purposes and water be available to us in the case
of a fire call in that part of our district:
-.3
6. We understand that the Midway complex is to be developed in stages. Me would
require an adequate water delivery system beginning frith the earliest stage
of construction.
7. A person on duty 24 hours a day (who otherwise acts as a nightwatchman,
maintenance man; etc.) who can provide the following services:
. .
a. assist in firefighting (this person will therefore need fire training
and could be a member of our company);
.. ,
. .
7—
