WY'?
I _
7 _
jOrani..e County Planning Board
/ Page 3
. .
b. direct us to the fire scene and have master keys to all gates and
buildings;
c. be iu radio contact with our fire trucks in order to turn us back
in the case of false alarms and provide additional information in
the case of real emergencies; this iuformation will include the • ,
location and nature of hazardous materials.
, .
Equipment
8. The above mentioned person should be equipped with turn-out gear,
portable fire extinguighers, master keys, firefighting foam (as a
back-up to our own supply), two-way portable radio, and air pack.
Access
9. it would be desirable (in terms of shortened response time) but not
critical to have access to Midway froM Tear Road.
Need fez' Additional Fire Truck
10. The Midway complex is beyond our present 4 mile limit so that we are
somewhat, constrained in what equipment we can provide at a fire. The
North Carolina Insurance Service Organization has informed us that these
limits may be moved out to 5 miles. Since most'of the Midway complex
would lie beyond even-the 5 mile limit, we forsee a serious problem in
being able to commit adequate equipment to a fire at that location. The'
problem is that a fire at Midway would require (at least one),Iarge
capacity pumper. While the pumper is on the scene, the rest of our . -::-
territory is unprotected putting us in violation of our commitment to
the Cane Creek fire district. We, therefore, feel that in order'to provide
adequate fire protection to Midway, we would need to acquire a 1000 gpm
pumper. This truck would automatically be dispatched to Midway and also
be used as needed elsewhere in the Orange Grove district.
We estimate that,Midway, if developed as'erivaibned by Lt e tacker:, of-the
project, will, in 10 years time constitute a third of the square footage of
all structure in our fire district. We propose, therefore, that the
developaa of Midway contribute one-third of the cost of a suitable fire truck.
We consider it wise and prudent to acquire this equipment at the earliest
possible time to meet the fire protection needs of Midway as well as the growing
needs of the rest of our district, The computations leading to the estimate
of one-third are attached.
Summar Statement i
BCCaUSE of limitations of equipment, manpower, and training, the Board of
Directors feels that The Orange Grove Volunteer Vire Company s not presently
prepared to provide adequate fire protection to the proposed Midway development
