411 To: The ofaggcounty Planning Board
From: The Calvander Community Homeowners Association
Date: October 25, 1987
At this important time in the determination of Orange County's
future development, we would like to offer you our
congratulations and support for your work on joint planning.
We continue to believe that the concept of joint planning is
a good one, since it will serve the best interests not only
of the county and townships, but of the University Lake
Watershed, a resource vital to all of us.
As you move forward to solidify this joint plan, we want to
add our voices to those addressing you tonight. The Joint Area
Land Use Plan should be modified to clearly designate all the
land west of Old Highway 86 between Calvander and Old
Fayetteville Rd. as being outside Carrboro's Transition Area.
This should be done to eliminate any concern or confusion as
to the intent to ensure Watershed development limitations in
this area.
Mr. Marvin Collins has informed us that the Orange County
planning staff will recommend tonight that the western edge
of Carrboro's planning area should follow Old 86 as its western
border between Calvander and old Fayetteville Road. Since
many of the other planning boundaries follow existing roads,
Mr. Collins said he saw no technical reason not to do this,
so as to clarify the planning maps. In the spirit of watershed
protection we urge you to approve this recommended adjustment
to the Joint Area Land Use Plan.
•
