20 <br /> 1 SUMMER ENRICHMENT &AFTERSCHOOL <br /> 2 <br /> 3 PIPELINE SERVICE PROVIDERS <br /> 4 There are a number of existing providers of summer and afterschool enrichment <br /> 5 programming in OC. Many already provide subsidies and serve some FSA families, but they <br /> 6 certainly aren't reaching all of them — and they don't necessarily include the literacy-focus that <br /> 7 we know is critical for maintaining academic gains. Some programs provide excellent content, <br /> 8 but because of their hours or location, it's not a feasible option for FSA families. <br /> 9 So our goal is to work with the schools and community partners to enhance <br /> 10 programming so it is accessible for parents and meets best practices in terms of supporting <br /> 11 literacy development. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 UPCOMING ASSESSMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS WITH POTENTIAL FINANCIAL <br /> 14 IMPLICATIONS <br /> 15 Steps to strengthen prenatal — K pipeline <br /> 16 FSA works with dozens of partners throughout the zones. Some of those nonprofits <br /> 17 receive UW funding as part of FSA, which requires them to focus their programming in the <br /> 18 zones. We are still working to get a better global view of their work and how UW funds <br /> 19 complement county funding. All of these organizations received UW funding for their general <br /> 20 programming before FSA was created, and they are now using those dollars to focus their <br /> 21 support in the zones. <br /> 22 As we grow the navigator program and work directly with more families, we will get a <br /> 23 better understanding of family needs. Right now, these partners meet the needs of families by <br /> 24 providing: <br /> 25 Youth services: <br /> 26 • Life skills for youth <br /> 27 • Literacy sessions in zone schools; children's books and home visits for literacy support <br /> 28 • Childcare scholarships <br /> 29 • Bilingual mental health treatment, school-based behavioral consultations, parent support <br /> 30 and workshops <br /> 31 • Girl Scout Community Outreach program <br /> 32 • Mentoring for youth <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Parent supports: <br /> 35 • Individual financial counseling, financial education workshops, individual career <br /> 36 counseling, career preparedness workshops <br /> 37 • Summer internship opportunities for youth <br /> 38 • Parenting education programs <br /> 39 • Family Literacy Program, basic literacy, GED preparation, digital literacy and English, <br /> 40 language instruction <br /> 41 The assumption of a 10% increase in funding is fairly modest, compared with the number of <br /> 42 families we will be expanding to serve in the coming years. As a collaborative, we will be <br /> 43 working with our partners to do collective budgeting. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 PLAN FOR EXPANDING & IMPROVING ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY CHILDCARE <br /> 46 As Dr. Bridger mentioned in her recent presentation, the AC has adopted a 2-year <br /> 47 strategic plan for FSA. The plan includes several assessments that will lead to <br /> 48 recommendations made to the AC about how to fill gaps in pipeline. <br /> 49 For example, the goal 1 area includes an inventory of existing supports in early <br /> 50 childhood and recommendations for strengthening those supports. As you know, our cohort <br />
