ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 3, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. (o - G <br />SUBJECT: Creation of Historic Rogers Road Community Enhancement Plan Development <br />and Monitoring Task Force and Appointment of Members <br />DEPARTMENT: County Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Moses Carey, Jr., Chair, 245-2130 <br />Commissioner Carey's Proposal As Laura Blackmon, County Manager, <br />Amended with Rogers Road 245-2300 <br />Community Issues Attachment Donna Baker, Clerk, 245-2130 <br />Rogers Road Area Maps <br />Membership Roster <br />Applicant Interest List (as of 4/26/07) <br />Volunteer Applications <br />PURPOSE: To approve the creation of a Historic Rogers Road Community Enhancement Plan <br />Development and .Monitoring Task Force based on an initial proposal by BOCC Chair Moses <br />Carey, Jr. and amended based on Board discussion at the April 24, 2007 regular meeting; to <br />discuss as necessary a map defining the Historic Rogers Road community; and to appoint the <br />members of the Task Force. <br />BACKGROUND: At the Board of Commissioners' March 27, 2007 regular meeting, the Board <br />decided to locate the County's solid waste transfer station on the current Orange County solid <br />waste services property on Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill. As part of this discussion, the Board <br />determined that it would like to proceed with developing a plan to address various issues and <br />concerns related to the Rogers Road community that were voiced both recently as well as in <br />past years. BOCC Chair Moses Carey, Jr. developed a proposal for Board review which was <br />discussed at the April 24, 2007 regular meeting. Based on that discussion, the proposal has <br />been amended, including the addition of an attachment developed earlier this year detailing <br />Rogers Road community issues. The Board expressed an interest in taking the next steps in <br />creating this task force at the May 3, 2007 meeting, including the appointment of task force <br />members. The Clerk's Office has begun advertising and has contacted the towns and <br />community residents regarding potential individuals for the BOCC to appoint as task force <br />members. Response information already received by the Clerk is attached and any additional <br />information received will be shared at the meeting, if not before. <br />Af the April 24, 2007 regular meeting, the Board also discussed the question of delineating a <br />map for the Historic Rogers Road community for the purposes of the task force's work. Three <br />map attachments are provided with this abstract, including the Rogers Road area map utilized <br />by the County in 2002 as part of the Rogers Road water line extension project.
