Beginning at the low points and perpendicular to the slope of the roof, install one ply of <br /> polymer modified bitumen membrane base ply shingle fashion into a uniform application of <br /> adhesive. The ply shall have minimum four-inch side laps and six-inch end laps. End laps <br /> shall be staggered a minimum of 18 inches. <br /> B. Valleys and waterways shall receive an extra ply of membrane. Membrane shall be the <br /> width of the roll and shall be centered over valleys and waterways. Membrane shall be <br /> applied prior to installation of the base ply in order to avoid backwater laps. <br /> C. Adhesive distribution shall be in accordance with rates set forth by the roof membrane <br /> manufacturer but not less than 1.5 gallons/100 square feet. Ply shall be thoroughly rolled <br /> into place as applied to aid adhesion and shall contain no voids, air pockets, or bridging. <br /> Rolling shall be accomplished prior to welding of the laps. A "garden drum type roller' <br /> should be used for rolling of the membrane. Foot traffic over newly installed modified shall <br /> not be allowed. <br /> D. Application of adhesive shall be quickly followed by polymer modified bituminous <br /> membrane. Adhesive shall be kept within six feet of the roll. Lap areas must be kept free of <br /> adhesive. <br /> E. Whenever possible, the entire roll of membrane should be applied in a continuous manner. <br /> If rolls are allowed to set while partially rolled out,the membrane shall be cut and reset in a <br /> uniform application of adhesive, lapping minimum of 12 inches back onto previously laid <br /> portion of roll. <br /> F. All side and end laps shall be heat fused. Stagger end laps a minimum of three feet. Cold <br /> adhesive shall not be applied to lap areas. All laps shall be clean and free of dirt,debris and <br /> contaminants prior to welding. No open flames shall be used for heat fusing. <br /> G. Side and end laps shall be rolled with a minimum 20 lb steel roller to assure adhesion; a <br /> continuous bead of adhesive extending between 1/4" and 1/2" shall be visible at all laps after <br /> application. <br /> H. All laps and leading edges shall be thoroughly examined for quality of fusion. Prior to the <br /> end of each day's work,all discrepant areas shall be reworked and properly fused. <br /> I. Turn modified bitumen membrane up a minimum of two inches above top of cant. <br /> 3.04 Weathering Sheet <br /> A. Prior to installation of weathering sheet,membrane shall be cut into 12 - 15 foot lengths and <br /> allowed to relax a minimum of 30 minutes. <br /> B. Weathering sheet shall be offset from base ply approximately 19 inches to result in side laps <br /> occurring at the center of the base ply. Side laps shall be four inches; end laps shall be six <br /> inches. Stagger end laps a minimum of three feet. Sheet shall be rolled into place. <br /> C. Weathering sheet shall be set in a solid application of adhesive as described in paragraph <br /> 3.03.C.
