Verify that curbs are sound, firmly anchored, smooth, and clean on surfaces scheduled to <br /> receive new nailers. <br /> D. Verify that surfaces of masonry walls are sound, firmly anchored, and smooth. Provide new <br /> masonry units as required. <br /> E. Document the actual quantities of materials installed in progress reports to Designer. <br /> • <br /> 3.02 Installation—Nailers and Blocking <br /> A. Set rough carpentry to required levels and lines, with members plumb, true to line, cut, <br /> and fitted. Fit rough carpentry to other construction; scribe and cope as needed for <br /> accurate fit. Locate nailers and blocking to comply with requirements for attaching other <br /> construction. <br /> B. At edges, curbs and other locations where nailers and blocking occur, remove damaged, <br /> defoinred, or deteriorated materials and replace with new materials. Notify Owner and <br /> Designer of any nailer replacement. Nailers requiring replacement shall be verified by <br /> the Owner or Designer. Claims for additional cost shall be denied without verification. <br /> C. Provide nailers at perimeter of roof, around openings through roof, and where roofs abut <br /> walls, curbs, and other vertical surfaces. Except where indicated otherwise, nailers shall <br /> be 6 inches wide. <br /> D. Anchor nailers securely to underlying construction. Perimeter nailers shall be anchored <br /> in accordance with FM Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1-49. <br /> E. All nailers shall be of sufficient thickness so as to be flush with the roof insulation <br /> interface and securely anchored. <br /> F. Wood nailers and blocking shall be secured with a minimum of two fasteners per piece. <br /> Fasteners shall be positioned 6 inches from each end and a maximum of 2 feet o.c and <br /> staggered 1/3 of the nailer width. Two fasteners shall be installed at ends of nailer <br /> lengths. <br /> G. Anchors used to secure new wood nailers, blocking, etc. shall be countersunk to provide <br /> a flush finish. <br /> H. Nailers shall be grooved for edge venting; install at walls, curbs, and other vertical <br /> surfaces with a 1/4-inch gap between each length. <br /> I. New wood nailers, blocking, etc., shall be chamfered, beveled, shaved, planed, or <br /> shimmed as necessary to provide smooth transition to adjacent materials. <br /> J. Install new wood blocking to facilitate not less than 8 inches of vertical flashing above <br /> adjacent finished roof surface. <br /> K.
